Conserva Irrigation

Your Sprinkler Blowout
Starts Here.

winterize your irrigation system

Our Process

Winter is rough on irrigation systems. If not properly prepared, pipes can freeze and burst, leaving your system ruined. So, no matter who installed or serviced your irrigation system, Conserva Irrigation will professionally winterize your irrigation system year after year at a flat rate price.

During the winterization, our Certified Irrigation Technicians will:

  • Turn off the water supply to your sprinkler system
  • Evacuate all water from your sprinkler system
  • Turn off the controller to the sprinkler system
  • Assess the condition of your sprinkler system
  • Create a Winterization Report
  • Leave an estimate for repairs
  • Answer all of your questions
  • Give you confidence with our No Freeze Damage Guarantee™

No Freeze Damage Guarantee™

Upon the completion of blowing out the irrigation system, Conserva Irrigation guarantees that the system was properly winterized and that no damage will occur from freezing temperatures. In the rare event that damage occurs due to our negligence, Conserva Irrigation will, at no cost to you, repair the damaged components.

Some exclusions included but not limted to are:

  • The irrigation system was not winterized prior to freezing temperatures
  • The vacuum breaker assembly was not built correctly
  • A zone would not operate properly, nor could the valve be located

Your Winterization Report will note any exclusions and exceptions. Call your local Conserva Irrigation office for additional information.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to be home for my sprinkler system to be winterized?

No. If you are unable to be home while we winterize your system, our certified technician will need access to the sprinkler controller (usually located in the garage), and the water shut-off (usually located in the basement). You can give us your temporary garage code or leave the service door open. Additionally, we will need access to the basement to turn off the water — unless you do that yourself (click this video).

What do I need to do before Conserva Irrigation winterizes my system?

Nothing. We will take care of everything for you, unless you will not be home. If that is the case, you will need to give Conserva access to the controller (located in the garage) and water shut-off (located in the basement). You may want to run your system multiple times prior to the winterization if the weather has been dry — to thoroughly soak the turf and plant material.

Will Conserva Irrigation flag my sprinkler heads so that I can get my lawn aerated?

Yes. Conserva will flag each sprinkler head so that the aeration company will not damage the sprinkler heads and valve boxes. Ask your local Conserva Irrigation office what the nominal additional charge is for this service.

How long does the sprinkler blowout process take?

Typically our winterization process takes 2 minutes per zone, plus a set up and take down time of 10 minutes. For example, an 8 zone system will take approximately 26 minutes to winterize, including recording the data for the winterization report that is left with you. If you have a tight schedule and you need to leave, our certified technician can finish without you being home.

How experienced are your technicians performing a sprinkler blowout?

Conserva Irrigation prides itself on training its staff. Many of our technicians have earned industry awarded certifications, such as Certified Irrigation Technician (CIT), Certified Landscape Irrigation Auditor (CLIA), and more. Additionally, many of our technicians have 10 -20 years of experience in the irrigation industry.

When is the best time of year to get my system winterized?

The time of year depends upon the region of the U.S. that you live. In the northern regions, the blow out season starts at the end of September and lasts through early November. Further south, the blow out season may not start until mid-October and lasts well into December. Regardless of the region you live in, it is crucial to have your system winterized before the temperatures consistently fall below 32° Fahrenheit to avoid freeze damage to your irrigation system — especially for above ground plumbing.

How much notice does Conserva Irrigation need to get my system winterized?

As with most things, the greater the notice, the easier it is to route your sprinkler blowout in our system. Contact your local Conserva Irrigation office to find out their availability.

Does Conserva Irrigation automatically winterize my system year after year?

No. You must take action each year by contacting your local Conserva Irrigation office to schedule and pay for your service. Many of our clients purchase season packages.

What is included in the winterization price?

Conserva Irrigation will turn off the water to your system, evacuate all water from the irrigation system, winterize the vacuum breaker, turn off the controller and run through an audit of your current system. Conserva Irrigation uses pressurized air to winterize your system – This acts as a perfect diagnostic tool by pointing out line leaks, broken heads and other deficiencies. Conserva Irrigation will assemble and leave you a Winterization Report that includes an estimate for necessary repairs.

How much does Conserva Irrigation charge to winterize my system?

Simply fill in your zip code above to receive your local pricing. All Conserva Irrigation offices use a flat rate pricing model — one price for nearly all size residential systems (with some leeway afforded on considerably larger properties). Ask your local Conserva office upon scheduling your winterization.

Does Conserva Irrigation charge additional fees on top of the flat rate price to winterize my system?

Yes. Conserva Irrigation charges extra flat rate fees for winterizing extra faucets on your house, outdoor kitchens, lake pumps, sand points, pond keep-fills and other water related products that require winterization. Ask your local Conserva Irrigation office how much these additional services cost.

I have a group of neighbors that would like to have their systems winterized on the same day. Does Conserva Irrigation offer group discounts?

Yes. Conserva Irrigation encourages groups of neighbors to take advantage of our group winterization discounts. Ask your local Conserva Irrigation office for their group rate pricing schedule.

How do I pay for the sprinkler system winterization?

When you schedule your sprinkler blowout with your local Conserva Irrigation office, they will gather your credit card information at that time. The credit card will not be charged until the week of your sprinkler blowout. Conserva Irrigation accepts most major credit cards, including Visa, MC, Discover and American Express.

Does Conserva Irrigation guarantee its irrigation winterization?

Yes. Conserva Irrigation offers a No Freeze Damage Guarantee™, provided that Conserva Irrigation was able to winterize your system prior to damaging below freezing temperatures. Some exclusions apply, including water sources that exit the house utilizing an elbow — rather than a tee. Ask your certified Conserva Irrigation technician at the time of winterization if any other rare or unusual circumstances apply.

The temperature is going to drop below freezing tonight and I still haven’t had Conserva winterize my system. What can I do to prevent freeze damage?

If the temperatures are just now dropping below freezing, you should not have to worry about the in-ground infrastructure, as it has the earth to insulate it. Any above ground, or non-earth insulated components, will need to be protected from freezing temperatures. You have three options available to you:

My vacuum breaker is already frozen. What should I do?

Conserva Irrigation can still winterize your system. Alert your local Conserva Irrigation office about your frozen vacuum breaker or any other concerns and they will coach you through the process. Never give up on winterizing your system. Although you may have some damage to your system, more than likely most of your system can be saved from further freeze damage. Additional charges may apply.

Your technician left a Winterization Report, including an estimate to fix the broken system components. Can your company fix my system yet this fall?

Possibly, depending upon the type of repair and our schedule. Ask your local Conserva Irrigation office for details. Rest assured that Conserva Irrigation will fix all of these problems for you in the spring upon Summerizing your sprinkler system or shortly thereafter.

Will Conserva Irrigation winterize my above-ground or in-ground swimming pool?

No. Conserva Irrigation does not winterize swimming pools.

I noticed that Conserva Irrigation added a “$1 Wyland Foundation” line item to my winterization invoice. What is this for and do I have to pay it?

Conserva Irrigation has partnered with The Wyland Foundation, a 501©(3) non-profit organization dedicated to promoting, protecting, and preserving the world’s oceans, waterways, and marine life. With your optional donation of $1, Conserva Irrigation will match this donation on behalf of this wonderful philanthropic partnership. Be sure to participate in the annual Wyland National Mayor’s Challenge for Water Conservation April 1 – 30, sponsored by Toyota, The Toro Company and Conserva Irrigation.
